Description
Create stunning patriotic fruit kabobs with watermelon stars and fresh blueberries in just 20 minutes. Perfect healthy treat for Independence Day celebrations.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 watermelons (choose seedless for easier preparation)
- 1 package (10.5 ounces) fresh blueberries
- Wooden skewers (soaked in water for 30 minutes)
Instructions
- Slice watermelon into 1-inch thick rounds. Pat dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.
- Press star cookie cutter firmly through watermelon slices. Save leftover watermelon for snacking or smoothies.
- Rinse blueberries gently and pat completely dry. Remove any stems or damaged berries.
- Thread approximately 15 blueberries onto each wooden skewer, leaving space at the top.
- Carefully slide one watermelon star onto the top of each skewer. Press gently to secure.
- Arrange finished kabobs on serving platter. Refrigerate until ready to serve.
Notes
- Choose firm, ripe watermelon for best results – it should sound hollow when tapped and feel heavy for its size
- Soak wooden skewers in water for 30 minutes before use to prevent splintering and make threading easier
- Cut watermelon stars slightly larger than cookie cutter size to account for juice loss during cutting
- Make kabobs up to 4 hours ahead and store covered in refrigerator to save party prep time
