Ingredients
Scale
- 1/2 cup (softened) Unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup Granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup (packed) Brown sugar
- 1/2 cup Apple butter
- 1 large egg Eggs
- 2 cups All-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon Baking soda
- 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon Nutmeg
Instructions
- Preheat & Prepare: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper
- Cream Base: In mixing bowl, cream unsalted butter with granulated and brown sugars until light and fluffy (3-4 minutes)
- Add Wet Ingredients: Mix in egg and apple butter until well combined and smooth
- Combine Dry Ingredients: In separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and pinch of salt
- Form Dough: Gradually incorporate dry ingredients into wet mixture until just combined (don’t overmix)
- Shape & Bake: Drop spoonfuls of dough onto prepared sheets 2 inches apart, bake 10-12 minutes until lightly golden
Notes
- Room temperature ingredients mix more easily and create better texture, so take butter and egg out 30 minutes before baking
- Don’t overbake – cookies continue cooking on hot pan after removal, so slightly underdone centers are perfect
- Use quality apple butter for best flavor – homemade or premium store brands make noticeable difference
- Space cookies properly on baking sheets as apple butter makes them spread more than regular cookies
