  • Author: Jennie Graham
  • Total Time: 20 minutes
  • Yield: 34 servings 1x

Description

Apple Cinnamon French Toast combines golden, fluffy slices of French toast with a warm, caramelized apple-cinnamon topping. This comforting breakfast classic is simple to prepare and filled with cozy, fall-inspired flavors—perfect for family brunches or special mornings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 medium apples, sliced
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 68 slices white bread
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup milk
  • ⅓ cup all-purpose flour
  • Powdered sugar (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Add apple slices, brown sugar, and butter to medium saucepan. Cook over medium-high heat until brown sugar dissolves and butter melts. Add ¼ teaspoon vanilla and ½ teaspoon cinnamon, reduce heat to simmer. Cook 6-8 minutes until thickened, then remove from heat.
  2. In large, wide bowl, whisk together eggs, remaining vanilla, milk, and remaining cinnamon. Stir in flour and whisk until completely smooth with no lumps remaining.
  3. Completely submerge one bread slice in batter, coating both sides. Lift out and allow excess to drip off. Cook in large pan over medium heat for 1-2 minutes until lightly browned, flip and cook other side 1-2 minutes. Repeat with remaining slices.
  4. Generously top each French toast slice with warm apple-cinnamon mixture. Sprinkle with powdered sugar if desired and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Use day-old bread for better absorption and structure that won’t fall apart
  • Keep cooked French toast warm in 200°F oven while preparing remaining slices
  • Choose firm apple varieties like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp for best texture
  • Don’t oversoak bread as it may become mushy and difficult to handle
  • Cook over medium heat to ensure even browning without burning
