- 3 slices sourdough bread (or sandwich bread)
- 1 large ripe avocado (or 2 small avocados)
- 1 ripe tomato (vine-ripened preferred)
- 3 pinches salt (or everything bagel seasoning)
- 3 pinches black pepper
- Chili flakes to taste
Instructions
- Lightly toast the slices of bread in a toaster or toaster oven until golden brown
- Slice the tomato into even rounds while the bread is toasting
- For hearty bread: scoop avocado flesh directly onto toast and mash with fork back. For sandwich bread: mash avocado in bowl first, then spread
- Top the avocado layer with a pinch or two of salt and pepper
- Lay one or two tomato slices on top of the seasoned avocado layer
- Top with another pinch of salt and pepper, plus chili flakes to taste
- Serve immediately while toast is still warm and enjoy
Notes
- Choose avocados that give slightly when pressed but aren’t mushy for the perfect creamy texture
- Salt the tomato slices separately and let them sit for 2 minutes to draw out excess moisture
- Toast bread to golden brown rather than light for better structural support under toppings
- Add chili flakes gradually and taste as you go to achieve your preferred heat level
