Description
This easy and creamy banana pudding is a classic Southern dessert, perfect for any gathering. Layers of fresh bananas, vanilla wafers, and rich vanilla pudding create a comforting treat.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 large ripe bananas, sliced
- 1 (5 oz) box instant vanilla pudding mix
- 2 cups cold milk
- 1 (14 oz) can sweetened condensed milk
- 1½ cups heavy whipping cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 box vanilla wafers (about 12 oz)
- Whipped cream or meringue (optional for topping)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, whisk together the instant pudding mix and cold milk for 2 minutes, until it thickens.
- Add the sweetened condensed milk and vanilla extract, stirring until smooth.
- In another bowl, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form, then gently fold into the pudding mixture.
- In a 9×13-inch dish, layer the bottom with vanilla wafers, followed by a layer of sliced bananas.
- Spread a layer of the pudding mixture over the bananas.
- Repeat the layers (wafers, bananas, pudding) until the dish is full, finishing with a layer of pudding.
- Chill in the refrigerator for at least 3 hours before serving. Top with whipped cream or meringue, if desired.
Notes
- For extra flavor, use ripe but firm bananas to prevent them from becoming mushy.
- Add a splash of banana liqueur for an adult twist.
- This pudding can be made the night before, allowing the flavors to meld perfectly.
