Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups sushi rice
- 3 tablespoons rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 large avocado
- 1 cucumber
- 1 carrot
- 2 nori sheets
- 8 oz crab meat
- Soy sauce for serving
- Spicy mayo for serving
Instructions
- Prepare Rice: Rinse sushi rice under cold water until clear. Cook according to package instructions for about 20 minutes. Let cool slightly before seasoning.
- Season Rice: Mix rice vinegar, sugar, and salt in a bowl. Heat gently until dissolved. Fold seasoning mixture into cooled rice using gentle motions.
- Prep Vegetables: Slice avocado into thin pieces, julienne cucumber into matchsticks, and shred carrot. Cut nori sheets into thin strips using kitchen scissors.
- Assemble Bowls: Layer seasoned sushi rice at the bottom of four bowls. Top with portions of crab meat and arranged vegetables in sections.
- Final Touches: Drizzle with soy sauce and spicy mayo as desired. Garnish with nori strips and serve immediately for best texture.
Notes
- Use day-old rice for better texture – freshly cooked rice can be too sticky for sushi bowls
- Season rice while still warm to help vinegar mixture absorb properly into each grain
- Choose firm avocados that yield slightly to pressure for perfect slicing without mushiness
- Pat crab meat dry with paper towels to prevent excess moisture from making bowls soggy
