Description

A delicious and easy recipe for garlic butter udon that you’ll love making at home. This simple yet flavorful dish combines chewy udon noodles with aromatic garlic butter for a satisfying meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 packages (14 oz) fresh or frozen udon noodles
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 green onions, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon toasted sesame seeds

Instructions

  • Step 1: Cook Noodles – Boil water in a large pot and cook udon noodles according to package instructions (about 8-10 minutes). Drain and rinse with cold water to stop cooking.
  • Step 2: Prepare Garlic Butter – In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the unsalted butter until it becomes bubbly and fragrant.
  • Step 3: Sauté Garlic – Add minced garlic to the melted butter and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant but not browned.
  • Step 4: Combine Ingredients – Toss the drained udon noodles into the skillet with garlic butter, adding soy sauce while gently mixing until evenly coated.
  • Step 5: Garnish and Serve – Remove from heat and garnish with sliced green onions and toasted sesame seeds before serving immediately while hot.

Notes

  • Don’t overcook the garlic as it can turn bitter; aim for just fragrant and lightly golden
  • Reserve some pasta water before draining to help loosen the sauce if it becomes too thick
  • Use fresh or frozen udon noodles instead of dried for the best chewy texture and authentic experience
  • Serve immediately while hot as the butter can solidify quickly and affect the dish’s creamy texture
