Instructions
- Prep: Preheat oven to 400Β°F, line baking sheet with parchment paper, and roll pastry to ensure even thickness
- Assembly: Cut pastry into rectangles, add jam filling (about 1 tablespoon per pie), and create bandage strips leaving edges clear
- Finishing: Apply egg wash thoroughly with pastry brush and gently press chocolate chip eyes into pastry
- Baking: Bake until golden brown for 15-20 minutes, watching for browning, then cool slightly before serving
Notes
- Chill assembled pies for 10 minutes before baking for better shape retention and cleaner edges
- Leave small gaps between bandage strips to show the “mummy skin” underneath for authentic appearance
- Use thick jam to prevent leakage during baking – strain regular jam if needed
- Press chocolate chips gently into pastry so they don’t fall off during baking
