A delicious and easy recipe for Caramelized Onion Apple Tart that combines sweet caramelized onions with tart apples on a flaky puff pastry base.

  • 1 sheet puff pastry (thawed)
  • 2 large yellow onions
  • 2 medium Granny Smith apples
  • 2 tsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp balsamic vinegar
  • 2 tsp fresh thyme leaves

Instructions

  • Prep the pastry: Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Roll out thawed puff pastry on floured surface and fit into tart pan
  • Caramelize onions: Heat olive oil and butter in skillet over medium heat. Add sliced onions and cook 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally until golden brown
  • Add vinegar: Stir balsamic vinegar into caramelized onions during last few minutes of cooking
  • Assemble tart: Layer caramelized onions over pastry, then arrange apple slices on top. Sprinkle with fresh thyme
  • Bake: Bake 25-30 minutes until golden brown and puffed. Cool slightly before slicing

  • Slice onions uniformly for even caramelization – aim for 1/4-inch thick slices
