Description

Light, airy, and irresistibly cheesy, these homemade cheese puffs are perfect as appetizers or snacks. Made with simple ingredients and baked to golden perfection.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or your preferred variety)

Instructions

  • Prepare Oven: Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line baking sheet with parchment paper
  • Create Base: Melt butter with milk and salt in saucepan over medium heat until bubbly
  • Form Dough: Remove from heat, quickly stir in flour and baking powder until smooth dough forms
  • Add Eggs: Cool slightly, then add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition
  • Incorporate Cheese: Fold in shredded cheese gently until evenly distributed
  • Shape Puffs: Drop dollops of dough onto prepared baking sheet using tablespoon or scoop
  • Bake: Bake 20-25 minutes until golden brown and puffed up, cool slightly before serving

Notes

  • Work quickly when adding flour to prevent lumps and ensure smooth dough consistency
  • Allow dough to cool slightly before adding eggs to prevent them from scrambling
  • Don’t open the oven door during first 15 minutes of baking to prevent puffs from collapsing
  • Space puffs at least 2 inches apart on baking sheet to allow for proper expansion
