Ingredients
Scale
- 14 oz block firm tofu, pressed
- 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
- 3 tbsp brown sugar
- 3 cloves fresh garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp fresh ginger, grated
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 2 stalks green onions, sliced
Instructions
- Prep: Press tofu with paper towels and heavy weight for 30 minutes, then cube
- Marinate: Whisk glaze ingredients, marinate cubed tofu for 30 minutes minimum
- Cook: Brown tofu on all sides in hot skillet for 8-10 minutes total
- Glaze: Add remaining marinade, simmer until thickened for 2-3 minutes
- Finish: Garnish with green onions and serve immediately while hot
Notes
- Press tofu overnight for maximum moisture removal and better texture
- Reserve extra marinade before adding tofu to prevent cross-contamination
- Don’t overcrowd the pan – cook in batches for even browning
- The key to perfect results lies in patience during the pressing stage – don’t skip this step as soggy tofu won’t achieve the desired texture
