  • Author: Jennie Graham
  • Total Time: 25 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

This Zesty Philly Cheesesteak Skillet brings the classic sandwich flavors into a quick, one-pan dinner. Featuring tender flank steak, sautéed peppers and onions, earthy mushrooms, and melty provolone, it’s a bold, flavorful meal ready in under 30 minutes with easy cleanup.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound flank steak, thinly sliced
  • 2 teaspoons low-sodium soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoons avocado oil, divided
  • 1 medium yellow onion, sliced
  • 1 small green bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 small red bell pepper, sliced
  • 8 ounces baby bella mushrooms, quartered
  • 1 cup shredded provolone cheese
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon celery seed

Instructions

  1. Whisk together salt, garlic powder, paprika, chili powder, onion powder, black pepper, and celery seed in a small bowl until well combined
  2. Toss sliced flank steak with soy sauce and 1 tablespoon of seasoning mix in a bowl until evenly coated
  3. Heat 2 tablespoons oil in large skillet over medium-high heat. Add onions, peppers, mushrooms, and 1 teaspoon seasoning. Sauté 8-10 minutes, stirring every 1-2 minutes for light charring
  4. Remove vegetables to bowl. Add remaining oil to pan. Cook steak in single layer 2-3 minutes undisturbed, then toss occasionally until cooked through
  5. Return vegetables to pan and toss with steak. Taste and adjust seasoning. Top with provolone cheese and cover 1 minute until melted
  6. Serve hot directly from the skillet for best flavor and texture

Notes

  • Slice steak against the grain for maximum tenderness
  • Don’t overcrowd the pan when cooking vegetables
  • Let steak rest at room temperature for 10 minutes before cooking
  • Grate your own provolone cheese for better melting
